What to wear for senior pictures?

What do I wear for my senior pictures. This is probably the second most common question I get when booking senior portraits. So, I thought this would be the perfect topic for my introductory blog post! This will be the first of many style/fashion tips I give to help you prepare.

As a high school senior, your senior photo shoot is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture your personality and style in a professional setting. In Colorado we have some of the most breathtaking locations, but the focus of this session is YOU. The right outfit can help you feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera, and ultimately lead to a set of photos that you'll love and treasure for years to come. So let's get going to my top seven tips for EVERY senior session...and a bonus tip.

So, what should you wear for your Colorado senior photo shoot? Here are a few tips to help you choose the perfect outfits:

  1. Keep it simple: While it can be tempting to go all out with bold patterns, it's best to keep your outfits simple and classic. If bold and vibrant is your thing go for it! Solid colors tend to photograph well, and they also give you the flexibility to mix and match pieces to create different looks. Avoid logos, graphics, and busy patterns, as these can be distracting in the final photos.
  2. Layers and Accessories: While the base outfit may be classic layers and accessories really pull an outfit together and, to me, where the fun happens. Here is where you break out that hot pink jacket and fur boa, or that top hat and baby blue blazer. And hats (yes please!).
  3. Dress for your body type: Choose outfits that flatter your body type and make you feel confident. If you're not sure what styles are most flattering, consider consulting with a personal stylist or a trusted friend or family member.
  4. Bring variety: It's a good idea to bring a few different outfits to your photo shoot, so you have options to choose from. This will allow you to mix things up and get a variety of looks. Bring a mix of casual and formal attire, as well as some accessories like scarves, hats, and jewelry to add some variety to your photos.
  5. Consider the location: Think about the location of your photo shoot and choose outfits that complement the setting. For example, if you'll be taking photos in a natural outdoor setting, consider wearing earth tones or neutral colors that blend in with the surroundings. On the other hand, if you'll be taking photos in a more urban setting, you might want to go for a more modern, edgy look.
  6. Don't forget about shoes: Shoes are often overlooked when it comes to photo shoots, but they can make a big impact on your overall look. Choose shoes that are comfortable and appropriate for the setting, and consider bringing a few different pairs to mix things up.
  7. Be yourself: Above all, your senior photo shoot should be a reflection of who you are. So, don't be afraid to express your personal style and showcase your personality through your outfits. Whether that means wearing your favorite band t-shirt or a formal gown, choose something that makes you feel like the best version of yourself.

Bonus Tip: Bring one outfit that is out of the box. Something crazy, silly, fun. Maybe your prom dress or a full on 70's suit. Not only is it fun, but it can also be fabulous! You never know what photos you are going to love so why not try something a little different.

As you plan your outfits for your senior photo shoot, remember to keep it simple, dress for your body type, bring variety, consider the location, pay attention to your shoes, and most importantly, be yourself. With a little bit of thought and planning, you can create a set of senior photos that you'll love and treasure for years to come.
