So You love Spring? Then it's the perfect time to schedule some senior photos!

Generally speaking, there are two types of high school seniors who schedule a photo session in the spring time in Colorado: those who want to capture a traditional graduation photo and those who want to showcase their unique personalities and interests in a senior portrait session. The former may opt for a cap and gown photo, while the latter may choose a location or theme that reflects their individuality. My personal opinion, taking senior photos in the springtime is a wonderful idea for any high school senior who wants to capture the beauty of nature and the excitement of graduating. I mean if you look back at your pictures from say, October....dude you have changed! Your like an adult now!

Regardless, here are some tips and ideas for making the most of the spring time in Colorado:

  • Choose a location that showcases the season - Spring is the time of year when nature comes to life, so choose a location that showcases the season. Consider taking photos in a garden, park, or other natural setting where flowers and trees are in bloom. The vibrant colors and fresh greenery will make for a stunning backdrop. My favorite local garden is Hudson Gardens in Littleton, Colorado.
  • Dress appropriately for the weather - Spring weather in Colorado can be unpredictable, so make sure you dress appropriately for the conditions. I mean yes there could be snow today and blooms tomorrow. So wear layers so you can add or remove clothing as needed, and consider bringing an umbrella or raincoat just in case.
  • Let's talk about that light! - Springtime is known for its soft, diffused light that makes for beautiful photos. Schedule your photo shoot for early morning or late afternoon when the light is most flattering, and avoid harsh midday sun. The sun sets late which means we get a longer day and more times to shoot!
  • Let's talk props - Think of all the fun seasonal props for spring time! I mean that could probably be a blog post in it self, but here are a few ideas: Umbrella, raincoat with matching rain boots, flowers, a picnic setup. !Your senior photos should reflect who you are, so consider incorporating props that showcase your personality. For example, if you're a musician, bring along your instrument. If you love sports, wear your team's jersey or bring along a ball.

Time for a dad joke: Why did the tree go to the dentist in the spring?

To get a root canal of course!
